A friend recently encouraged me to have some of my old 4x5 trannies scanned. This was taken in the late 1990s when the place was still relatively accessible. Soon afterwards, the stirrup that helped hikers get out broke off and flash flood created a very deep drop off. I've not been back in since.
I have
another version of this on my website that was taken only a few minutes later. This is a very tight spot and requires a wide angle lens to get it all in. In the image posted here I was literally immersed in the glow that was illuminating the scene. In the one on my website the glow is decidedly behind the arch. Even though this was taken over a decade ago, I still remember that wonderful sense of glow that enveloped me and the arch and feel the image portrays it well.
Interestingly, in looking over the old transparencies, this was the only one that still moved me. I guess we move on photographically and find it easier to relate to our present work. At least that's the way it felt to me.
Your thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated.

Amazing glow. I would love to see more of your 4x5 work. Great title BTW.

Both are just top notch captures, Tony. The first scene has the immediate impact of the light being cast, but I find the second as impressive with a little less light too. Overall, I would say the story behind the event with recent lack of access to the site may bring these to a higher level of appreciation with your own images captured to date. Wonderful stuff.
p.s. Long live film.
This is masterful, the glow is exquisite. For some reason, I thought of the term "anti-slot." And not in a negative way. What is not present here that we so often see in slot images are the deep magentas, purples, blues and contrast with reflected light. The finely exposed glow is simply different and somewhat unique to what we usually see - hence, anti-slot. Probably comes across as negative, but it's not meant that way.
Not sure why you would have needed encouragement to get this scanned, but certainly glad you did. Wow.

Hard to decide, but I'd say I like this version better, because the light is so wonderful and unique. The other version looks more like a lot of other slot shots I see.

I'd be embarrassed if you had any idea how many times I've looked at this. What a beautiful photo. What you do just knocks the wind outta me, man. This is just gorgeous.
Have you ever thought about changing the name of your website to something more appropriate? Like www.Really-Amazing-Way-Insanely-Great-&$*$^#%##%$^@#($&%-Crazy-GoodLight.com? :)
Thanks.
Cheers

I'm late to this party but have to comment. This is one of the most incredible shots I have seen from anywhere. Absolutely amazing. Congratulations on creating this masterpiece and the well deserved EP.
