Sun Filtered Through The Storm

I just got back from another extended trip to the Palouse. I know it is not everybody's favorite but I love the place when the greens are exploding ! I have returned a few times this year trying to time it so that everything is vibrant green and also on the search for canola. Anyways, I have really worked this place trying to find compositions I like before the light happens. I have found a few places I like in the 1000 miles of driving in the Palouse and this was one of them. Studying the cloud cover and change of weather I tried to get to my spot before the change rather then scramble for something while it is happening. I also have noted something that made a difference to the greens was if I shot the fields after it just rained and waited for the light filtered through the clouds you can get some surreal greens mixed in with the mist. I included the trees for perspective to show how big this place is.

Thanks for any comments or critiques

Nice Kevin I would love to be able to go there myself and explore some possibilities. Cracking shot.

I'm lovin the stuff from Palouse because I'm heading there mid July. I see a totally different look then but I'll take what I can get as I make it part of my journey to Oregon. Love the shot. If it was mine I'd maybe crop about 1/10 off the bottom (about 1/2 way from where the bottom is now and where the first line touches the right frame edge). The darker bottom is just a tad too weighty IMO.

Peter I left the bottom third as I wanted to keep my thirds on the trees but realize it was a trade off between the weighted bottom or the misplacement of the subject on the thirds; I realize there are times to break the rule I just could not find a better place to break the rule here. Thanks for the heads up - I will try both options again !

"... you can get some surreal greens mixed in with the mist."

Kevin, if surreal greens were what you were after, I'd say you got 'em. Neon, brilliant, chartreuse, and emerald, as well. And, of course, beautiful. I do like the colors and the inclusion of the trees for scale. Your effort paid off again.

Wow, this is gorgeous. Those greens look like flowing silk. A stunner that is a pay-off from lots of planning! Great work, Kevin.

Lovely job with the elevated perspective and waiting for the perfect low angle light to add definition to the sculpted hills. The greens look superb after the rain.

The trees in the bottom left add a sense of scale and make the shot for me.

Wonderful silky smooth shot Kevin. If it were mine, I'd crop off a slice from the bottom and a little bit from the left - sometimes imo the rule of fourths or fifths works even better. Congrats on the EP!

Awesome image Kevin! :jump: A well deserved win! I do agree with cropping a bit off the dark bottom since it is the lesser park of the image, but that is very minor and not even a 'nit', great photo. :toast:
