1/50 sec at F/11. ISO 640. Circular Polarizer and Singh Ray 2 stop soft GND.

I think this is my first image post in the Fauna gallery. Went up to Dream lake to shoot sunrise and was lucky enough to have a male elk come visit. This is my favorite of my shots from that encounter. Please let me know what you think!

Great shot! I kinda' wish the elk was spotlit or something to draw my eye to it, but a great shot nonetheless! :toast:

Wow, very nice to have an elk wander into such a great landscape . I agree with Rick about wanting to have more light on the elk, but that is minor.

The elk is certainly a nice addition to an already nice landscape. Everything is nicely exposed, and the elk and the entire landscape look sharp. Nice job. I also like that he is looking back at you, although having him looking away toward the mountains would have worked as well.

Lovely setting and light. I would think you could selectively adjust levels in the opposite corners of the image to bring out the elk a bit more and hold down the whites in the ULC. With a well posed elk as a foreground element of a fine landscape, you might have a real showstopper. :toast:

Great shot Alex - this is how I prefer wildlife photography myself; animals in the landscape. With some PS work you could balance out the exposure and get an even better shot - definitely worth the extra work. Well done.

Dream Lake. You more than likely thought you were in dreamland when this guy wandered into your set-up.All I ever get is tourists and photographers. It doesn't matter to me that the elk is not lit,it's there and I see it.

Thank you all for the comments and critiques so far. I have tried my hand at brightening up the elk and I cannot seem to make it look natural. If anybody would mind giving me some more specific suggestions about how to do it, I would love to hear it.

Thanks.

Alex: Congrats on the EP. I'm really envious. I've been to Dream many times and have never seen elk of any sort, much less a prime bull. Pretty darn nice shot of the lake as well. Many bravos! >=))>

Sweet capture, Alex! Quite the bonus that you had the elk there too.
