What a nice place to spend a day in August. Camped out atop a lake covered in ten feet of snow in the Oregon Cascades range, not another person for miles.

Marc, I think you should be the host of one of those "survival in the wilderness" shows, only with nature photography as a twist!

All goes to show the work you put into being at the right spot at the right time to produce those amazing photos - thanks for posting!

Love the title Marc. Equally envious of your departure from the masses...enjoy!

Nice to see another "action shot" of yours. I've actually bought the same tent recently and I'm glad to see that it is well prepared for such weather conditions. And yeah - one of the great things when you're up there in the mountains alone is the peaceful time you can spent there.

Andreas, I experienced 60km/hr winds overnight that really put this '3-season' tent to the test (not the first time, as I've owned one of these tents for six years). It works best in snow if you fortify each of the walls by building up snow along the edges. Most importantly, bring two extra guy lines to attach through the loops on the sleeve of the large pole and stake those down in the snow also. This pic was taken before I attached the guy line.

Thanks for the helpful advice, Marc. I'll get some extra lines as soon as possible and will add it to the tent. For the winter I will also purchase some special snow pegs - the standard ones look very weak.

Cool, i kind of wished i had been a thousand feet higher last week so i could have been in the snow rather than snow-rain mix. Interesting to see the difference here from your shot of "Mist Mountain Colors" which looks like it was shot just a hundred yards away or so.

Yep, those flowers won't even see the light of day this entire year since we had such a hard Winter.

The background isn't Magic Mountain either, Bill. Oh, and it was about 35 degrees too. I can't wait to get back up there tomorrow.

Hey, we can actually see your face fairly well and the fact that your head covering *is* hair and not a wool hat  You're a pretty cute brilliant photographer Marc. Thanks for a better glimpse at the next whos who in landscape photography. Stay warm!

You really know how to camp and you pick the best places it would seem
