I love the Light and detail here. But the right leg is in the dark..would like to see more detail on that..I would also like to see the parent fully. But thats minor for me. Thanks for sharing this Graham

Beautiful close-up, Graham. I love the eye contact and the detail in the feathers. The youngster looks like it's smiling which adds a nice touch to the image. :toast: :toast:

Graham, this is a really cool capture. I agree with Dennis...it looks like the young one is smiling and it makes this much more interesting. Awesome job!

The juvenile is captured perfectly here. I would prefer a vertical comp to show the body of the adult. That said this is a nice intimate scene with great detail in their faces. Perhaps some of that would have been lost by a vertical comp? Do you know what dinner is?

Beautiful detail, Graham. I find myself wishing there was just a little less contrast in this image between the bird and the background.

As others have commented, the expression on the youngster's face is priceless.

I've said it before - I like intimate looks at behavior like this. For me, a looser crop would sacrifice that intimacy but I see the advantages of both options. I like it Graham. I too wonder what's for dinner?

What's for dinner? I actually sat a distance away from the nest where someone had put some peanuts out for other birds. This woodpecker kept picking up a peanut and bringing it to a branch not more than 15 feet from me. She then made a hole in the bark, put the peanut it and then mash it up with her beak, so i think the food in this image is mashed peanut. Graham

I agree with Ron's comments about liking the intimacy of this shot and also agree that it would probably be lost if you included all the adult bird in the image. Wonderful capture. :toast:
