Mormon Metalmark

It's been a while since the camera has seen the light of day - but I finally got out this past weekend for a few hours in the Catherine Creek Watershed in the Columbia River Gorge.

I happened across this handsome BF perched among the grasses. It's a new species (for me) - no ID yet and my references at home aren't very helpful. Any assistance in critter ID is greatly appreciated.

Full frame, 180/3.5 with 25mm of extension @ f/16, speedlight and softbox, reflector, MLU, spot metered on the whites...

This is a fantastic shot William. Check your guide for a Morman Metalmark and see how closely it looks,, not sure about the ID. :toast: :toast:

Just perfect, William! Great that your camera got out again! I love the subtle colors and how the eye matches the BG beautifully! :toast: :toast:

Thank you for looking and the kind comments. It does look like a Mormon Metalmark - maybe a tad more checkered than other images I happened across in my e-search.

In a previous post Ronnie and I had a short discussion regarding the lack of BFs. I happened to stumble across this article that comes to the same conclusion.

But I do disagree with Dr. Wagner on one count - I happen to think Metalmarks are quite pretty.
