Cicada on Bluestem

by Brad Mangas

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted October 9, 2008783 views13 comments
Taken last month while standing in the middle of the largest tract of tallgrass prairie remaining on this continent. At any give spot I could look and see no less than a dozen cicadas getting ready for their evening of song.
The Flint Hills, Kansas.

Full Frame.

Brad,
This is simply a fantastic composition, with wonderful details and a backgound that mirrors the subject beautifully. :toast:

Beautiful, beautiful image. Everything works. And the colors are quietly spectacular.

Excellent Brad - maybe a tad tight along the right margin, but sweet nonetheless! :toast:

Lovely image. Liked the BG - looks like soft brush strokes of a painting. Inclusion of the other prominent grass stems enhances the image aesthetics. Might only consider cloning out of the small portion of the stem projecting into the frame on the left edge.
A lovely image overall. :toast:

Great shot Brad! Nice BG texture and the light is wonderful! DOF is perfect. The grasses on the lower right, and the little one on the left between two blades, perhaps if it were my photo, I'd PS them out. I've never seen a cicada before. Thanks for the visual!
