Taken back in July, the light was truly spectacular that morning. I hadn't posted this image in color over on Avian yet, but I worked it up and like the way it looks in B & W.

D200, HH, laying in wet sand on the shoreline, f5.6, 1/800, ISO 125, 80-400mm at 280mm, almost full frame, slight rotation adjustment, converted to B & W.

Thank you for looking and as always I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques.

Looks sweeeet, Lia!! Very velvety smooth, like a fine cognac! Course, i dont drink cognac but that sounded better than a 'fine microbrew'

Nice shadows, highlights, and sense of depth and movement, Lia -- the penatrating gaze is great. Congrats.

This is SO beautiful! Feels more like Harvey's Bristol Cream than then those drinks stan mentioned.

I do believe you when you say the light was spectaculat, but without seeing the color version, I have to also believe that the black and white seems to work wonders on the textures here -- both in the bird and in the water.

Very nice in B/W, Lia. The contrast + absence of color permit us to focus on the bird's forward stride.

Yet, the light was awesome.

Love these guys, great capture and conversion. The light really accentuates the feather details.

Lia, this is simply incredible! I think this is PERFECT in B&W and I would even mess with the color version! Fantastic work! :toast:

Lia,

This is just exceptional in black and white - particularly the eye and the feather detail. Many kudos on the well deserved EP.

This is an instant fave. Found it whilst browing thru older challenges and looking for BW images. I like its simple subject matter with tones that set it off its background yet are totally in balance with rest of the foto. The highlights on the bird's front draw the eyes towards that part without the color intensity selling the show. An enlarged version would show off the foto's sharpness. This is a beautiful capture and embodies an outstanding BW presentation; something that is rare.
