Grasshopper Sparrow

Grasshopper sparrow is another one of our rare sparrows here in norhtern New England. This image was taken early this morning at Kennebunk Plains in southern Maine. The plains hold one of the largest grasshopper sparrow colonies around here due to plenty of habitat and the fact that it's protected and managed for grassland birds. Thanks for looking.

He'd better be right there on this perfect perch, in this perfect pose, and in this perfect light, when I get there this weekend.

It would be hard to ask for a nicer image of this species. I know how hard they were to find in my NJ days, and here in AZ they are pretty much a winter bird that stays on the ground in the grasses.
