Island in the Stream

The day before I took this image, it rained which turned to wet snow and then finally snow and fog in the morning. Since this is perfect conditions for moody photography, I set out--only to find my car stuck in the slush of the road just after this, my first (and only) shot of the morning.

I liked how the horizon vanished in the snow and fog and there was just this little carved out island in the middle of a farmer's field. I am curious if others respond to this or if the image just seems disconnected to them.

I just love this shot Samantha. I love the browns of the grass and the silhouettes of the trees. I can see just enough form in the hill, but I also like how this island just floats within the frame. It looks like you freed your car from the slush too, which is always a good thing.

Very nicely seen and captured. A real sense of the bleakness of winter is revealed in a very simple natural way.

I love the floating landscape in that white canvas. Isolated, bleak but beautiful.

Great eye, Samantha! I love the floating island effect. Bleak, cold, and beautiful.

Great shot. The effect is interesting and very attractive. I think it also works cropped down to an almost panoramic format.

I like it very much! It conveys a somber winter mood very well. The composition is superb and I love the way you used the negative space.

Some creative thinking on this image. The starkness of the trees and the isolation of the landscape really complement each other. I have yet to see something like this.

Congratulations on the WP Samantha. So simple, yet very powerful image. I grew up on the plains and witnessed winter scenes like this and recall the stark beauty when I study this. :toast:
