The Old Dock on a Soft, Foggy Morning

I took this several weeks ago, about the same time as all those other sunrise fog shots. The soft colors were really pretty. There are mountains in the distance, but I couldn't see them until after the fog was nearly all gone.

Minolta A1, 1/40 sec, handheld, lying down on the top end of the dock, F7.1, ISO 100, spot metering, shade WB, 28 mm equivalent. All I did in PS was rotate it to get the horizon level, some levels to lighten it overall, and USM for web view.

Comments are very much appreciated; isn't that why we post on here? :)

I really like how the water, fog, and reflections all blend into each other. Keeping the dock relatively low in the frame allows your eye a reference point.

I remember this dock from your earlier post. This must have been a magical morning!

No suggestions. I’m just gonna enjoy the view!

Hi Anne, comments ARE why we post; and thanks for posting over here! I agree that having the dock down low is really nice. The grass in the LRC adds some balance for me. I love the trees in the MG and I can barely see the mountains on the other side (or at least I imagined them!). Nice shot.

The mood and composition are good. What makes the image for me is the slight view of the distant landscape in the top right portion of the image.

Good photography!

Thanks.

Joe.

Hi Anne,
I love the dock fading in the fog; the black line is a good visual anchor.

Nice shot Anne - I like the colors and the low contrast quite a bit. However, I don't like the pole much - it's so dark and sharp and doesn't match the feel of all the other elements; it almost looks like you left a needle on your scanner

Thanks for the comments, everyone. It was indeed a great couple of mornings for taking pictures. (For one thing, there was no wind, kinda uncommon around here. ) The light and colors were changing constantly. Nathan, I liked that grass, too. I tried several images of the grass. As for that post out there, well, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't.

The mist really pulls this together for me, Anne. It gives it almost an etherial feeling, and even on screen, it feels like it is moving. You are having way to much fun!

Hello Anne,
I've liked everyone of these. This is one of my favorites. While the others conveyed a sense of mystery - this is more open, like an unveiling. The grass is a nice balance, and I love the tree line in the distance and the subtle colors in the sky.
