Another shot from the New England ice storm. Other ice storm shots here and here.

This is my favorite of the bunch. Thanks for taking a look!

Canon 50D/Kirk L-bracket, EF 100/2.8 Macro USM, Bogen 3221/Kirk BH-3, remote release, f/16 at 1 second, ISO 100, crop off right side.

Really cool, Jim. My favourite of the bunch as well.

Looks like a snake to me, complete with an eye its head.

Very neat Jim. My first thought was copperhead. Great textures and shapes.

WOW! Super shot Jim. We were about 20 miles south of the ice and just received tons of rain. Never thought to use a macro during an ice storm.

Thanks to all for your comments!

Along with getting to know the 50D, I'm also learning CS4, which I had to upgrade from CS to support the 50D RAW files. Still trying to get the hang of the "vibrance" and "smart sharpen" features, and I just upgraded my copy of Noise Ninja to the CS4 plug-in version. I have uploaded an improved large version of this photo here, which is sized to 1280 X 1024 and now resides on my desktop.

Thanks again to all for taking the time to look and comment!

This is excellent Jim! I can't get over the amazing textures & detail in the ice. The encased leaf twisting through the ice seems to glow in spots. Take your choice, a duck, a snake or maybe even a couple of other creatures just up to the imagination.

Great technical execution on this one! :toast:

It makes you think, wonder ......
And it is beyond words to describe ......
What I can say, however, is that you have a photographer's EyE!

My first thought was that it looked like a duck. I'm absolutely amazed at the texture you captured in the ice. It is phenomenal IMO. Perfect DOF and great lighting too.

What a splendid image! I go on looking at it an admiring it again and again. A Swarovski cristal showing a python that has swallowed a leaf. Excuse me Jim, a photo so beautiful can only be spoiled by words.
Cheers.

This is a beautiful image, Jim! The ice storm (well the results of it) was on our news yesterday and I wished I was there to make some photos. Although it looked not at all only beautiful, there must be a lot of damage. I hope you did come through okay. :toast:

Thanks to all for commenting!

Still no power or cable at home so I have to log on with my laptop from our apartment, which we have until Dec. 31. I'm looking forward to the restoration of normal life so I can get back out and enjoy some photography again!

Not a cool situation to be in Jim, but some very cool shots from it. Nicely illustrated - I love the detail in the surface of the ice in the macro shot.

Whoa! Jim! This is really fabulous! I am gawking at it in amazement. We're due for more snow and ice in the next 24 hours or so, and now I'm inspired to bundle up, stuff some extra batteries in my inner pockets and go out to have a close look. Fantastic image!
