Deercan recycling.

I saw this at one of my favorite spots to photograph. A little surprised when I turned around during a little down time and had to get a closer look to make sure this was what I thought it was.

Deer hunting is a must in this area to keep the numbers down and the population healthy. I'm not sure about the disposal method of the remains.

Question is: What bothers you more, if anything.

The vision of the deer head and leg on the cans?
The amount of aluminum used?
Or, that someone had to drive home after all of this!

I keep thinking of the poor person who will come to pick up the cans and have to figure out what to do with the head and foot. Wouldn't it have been better to have left these remains in the wild where wildlife could make a meal of it? I think your photo does make one wonder why someone put these items in the recycling can.

Jerry, that's a startling image, and I agree with Sally.

Interesting how throwing the deer parts in with the recycling is throwing them away, when it's a lot easier to "recycle" the unused pieces of a deer than it is aluminum. That's the most direct message I come away with from this image.

Well done.

Sally, Steve, thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm not sure what message I get from the image. On one hand, it's kind of insensative to just toss the deer head in the recycle bin when there is probably a better way to deal with it. On the other hand, the meat will be used, the pelt will likely be donated, and the parts will probably end up in the woods when they get around to it anyway. It's just not the combination of refuse that we normally see.

Thanks again for your comments and time.

I thik it's disgraceful! Shows a complete lack of respect for nature, basically it's saying the deer is trash. I love venison, so i have no problem with the dead deer, but i cant relate to the mindset that can do this.

does a good job to show the span of our wastefulness....from deers to beers we'll waste anything we can think of. i feel like the deer is looking at me and asking why? wish i knew buddy.

Desecration and ultimate disrespect and disregard!! If they hunted this animal and benefitted from the harvest of meat from it, they could have thanked Deer for the bounty and buried it's head as a sign of humility for the predetory violence involved (for the good of the deer population or not) and in respect for Deer's sacrifice. I'm so upset, I'm having trouble typing this... Imho, we are all connected in a Circle of Life. Implied in that is the sanctity involved and the duty to be good stewards of life, in all its forms, as best we can. Clearly that didn't happen here. Shameful.

But then, perhaps I preach to the choir...

Edit: And btw, it is a terrific photojournalism shot; obviously emotive and thought provoking however unpleasant it is to see this and know what happens out there. Thanks for posting it, and congrats on the EP. (I'm so upset I forgot congrats are in order. Sorry...)
