NPWC #368 - Icicles over the Stillwater

Stillwater River, Montana. I posted a related but different compositon last week in ESS. This is a separate capture, and I like how the slow shutter speed simplified the composition, and emphasized the complementary shapes of the ice and rock. Tony Kuyper's luminosity masks were indispensible for bringing out the textures in the ice. Please see the larger version!

Canon 40D. Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS @ 200 mm. ISO 100. f/13. 4 sec. Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter.

Fabolous image, Doug! Thanks for sharing the larger version. I really like the two types of contrast I'm seeing here: "the black flow" and "the white still". Superb!

A beautiful ice curtain, Doug! The contrast of the smooth water & rocks with the intricately detailed ice is excellent and the complimentary profiles work well also. The clarity and detail in the large image really make a difference. Thank you for including it!
