Crocus Impressions

Hi all.

We have some color out in our yard! I am excited to be out shooting again, though as I told my wife, I am not ready to shut the studio for the year yet.

It was cold today, but I was out shooting anyway. We will be getting some snow tomorrow I think - possibly several inches.

My son held my diffuser for me when I took this shot.

Nikon D80, Sigma 180 macro, tripod, ISO 100, f3.5, double exposure in camera, bored 5 year old

Stunning image Nathan!!!

I like the painted look to this image. Great colours, wonderful composition and a great job your son has done with the diffused light.

Very well done!

Nathan...this is beautiful. The softness speaks of spring. I love the low angle perspective and the light the seems to emanate from the flower itself. At first I found the UR a little bright, but I've decided I like it that way... Its bright but there aren't any highlights that lead you eye away from the main subject..

I'm heading to NY on business in a couple of days and I'm hoping the crocus and snow anemones are blooming

Hey I too have used a bored son as a diffuser stand. Unfortunately, not on a day like today with 8" of new snow. Lovely profile and isolation of a flower that usually appears in clumps. On first impression the petals seem a little light to me, but given the light background it all seems to work out well :toast:

Beautiful work Nathan. I really needed the larger version to fully appreciate it. It looks like a chalk work to me and I like it very much. I particularly like the comp but the color in the upper left corner also adds a lot I think.

Nathan: Glad to hear you have some color and a good assistant. We just cannot seem to get crocus to grow here so I really enjoy images of them. The color palette here is so nice. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

Pretty fabulous! Your work with double exposures interests me. I sure like the effect, except I'm not used to the ghosting. It's a lovely, soft, dreamy presentation. Very artistic, creative.

Hi, Nathan... I like what you've done with a very simple composition here: the soft OOF colors are excellent complements to the texture of the petals. I'm not quite sure about the line of white along the upper right edge of that petal: the white on the middle petal is fine, but the right-hand one seems too hard.

Beautifully delicates tones, Nathan, and the bg is superb. Could just have wished for slightly more of a peek at the centre, if that were possible.
