Found these flowers at the grocery store...obviously dyed for spring/Easter but I couldn't resist taking them home and seeing what I could come up with.
Glass treated with RainEx, sprayed with water, then taken with 50mm macro.

Thanks guys,

Cindy to answer your question, the glass was about 2 inches above the nearest flowers.
Glad you enjoyed it...it was fun to experiment with this method.

Congratulations on the EP! Interesting concept that resulted in bountiful color, and intricate detail in each bubble. Again, congratulations.

I don't mean to be nosie, but I really want to try this with flowers and some other things. Could you possibly explain to me how you do this? How close the subject must be to the glass, does the glass need to be laying down? How to you go about with the water droplets, because I used a spray bottle and they just immediately flattened out. And is it just flowers or can you use other subjects as well? Once again, I am truly sorry if I sound nosie or if you don't wish to explain it, I just can't get over the image and would really like to work on it myself.

Andrea,
To answer your questions. I took a bunch of flowers and set them on the floor. I piled books on chairs on either side of the flowers...to get to the appropriate height about 2-3 inches above the flowers. If you look closely, you can see the books reflected in the droplets. I later tried this again and covered the books with black cloth to hide them. I treated a 12 inch piece of glass with RainX and placed the glass horizontally above the flowers stretched across the piles of books. It has to be level or the drops will fall off. I then sprayed the glass with water and got the droplets you see here. I positioned my camera lens (macro) directly above the glass and took dozens of shots. I can't remember the exact information, but it was shot at about f/20. It was a bit of a pain to set up...but once it's done you can experiment with all kinds of subject matter.

Good Luck...I hope this helps and have fun with it.

Thank you so much Kate, I'll be buying some RainEx real soon, is the RainEx what keeps the droplets from flattening out or was it just plain luck?

Andrea,

The RainX made all the difference in the world. The water simply would not "bead" without it. I've used it to spray on flowers at home too...and the water bead's nicely That's what RainX is meant to do after all..force water to gather in droplets and get carried away off your car!

Have fun...I'd love to see some of your results when you get them.
