WC #377 Homestead

I took this image last summer just before the wheat harvest outside the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon. This is a place I will visit with the change of seasons. This year the fields are fallow, so I need to wait for my green-field summer image. I couldn't get any closer, since this old homestead is on private property.

Oh man, what a gold mine!! I look forward to seeing more images from here and wish I could find such a place to play at!

I like the comp, but feel it may have been a little stronger had you moved to the left a bit to include more of the tree and shorten the distance between the tree and house just a little. I bet this would make a very cool twilight light painted image!

Great light, David! Ordinarily i might agree with Wayne's critique, but here i think the seperation is actually useful since it isolates the house even more, improves the sense of isolation/abandonement. Nice shot!

Thanks for the comment Wayne. I've gone back to experiment with different comps during the fallow season. During this particular shot I was getting some pretty heavy shadow to the left (from a hill) and there is also a telephone pole just outside the left area of the frame.

I'll get there a bit earlier next time and see how your suggestion works in 2010.

Nicely done David. I like the shadow from the hill and I like the separation of the house. My suggestion would be to crop out the shadowed area in the fg.

David,
Great light in this image! And, what a great old house. I might offer a free print to the owner to get permission to get closer and compose the image as you see fit... it's a great subject in a great setting. Well done.

I got that movie feeling too Luke, maybe "Grapes of Wrath," or possibly "Giant."

I like the comp, colors, and warm light. The tree, wagon, house, and fields all look abandoned.

Nice find and an excellent shot, David. Love the warm light. I also think it would look very nice as somewhat of a panorama with most of the shaded grass on the bottom removed.

I, too, like this comp, as I think it contributes to the abandoned feel to the house. Great shot.
