Hayrake Rays (W/REPOST)

I shot this during a fantastic morning in Sugar Hill, NH on Saturday. After a clear sunrise, fog moved up out of the valley engulfing me in mist. I changed to a lower field with a different aspect, hoping that this would happen, and caught it at the perfect moment to spotlight the lupines in the hayrake.

While there are a lot of good features in this image, I know there is a lot to critique. Wondering general thoughts on compositional imperfections vs. overall impact?!

Thanks in advance!

That is some graet light Jim. My only small nit would be to crop a bit from the top the eliminate that sliver of sky

I agree with the previous crop suggestion. Do that, and this is great. I like the comp, especially the lupines in the LRC.

Hi Jim!! I was hoping you'd post this one! I love it!! I agree with the slight crop and also would like to see a bit of contrast. Patience wins out!!! :toast: You've got a winner!!

Wonderful shot Jim, lovely light, composition and subject. I agree with a slight crop from the top (or clone out the open sky). I also find the large Lupine which is cut in half diagonally toward the LLC to be a bit distracting, a small crop or clone would work well there also (IMHO). Also agree a small increase in contrast may be called for. :toast:

Thanks for the comments. I've been hesitant to crop it, but tried a few at your suggestion. I think this fairly moderate crop retains the mood, but eliminates the noted distractions. Also punched the contrast a hair, but want to keep this one true to the scene...lots of mist in the air killing contrast as it was...

Thanks...hows this (too much, or just right?)?

Jim, I like the rework. I just wanted to see the rake stand out a bit more and the cropping is just right...for me. Good job!!

I think reworked version with the crop and contrast adjustment is a big help, wonderful shot. The lighting in this is outstanding and I really like the old farm equipment with the beautiful flowers is outstanding.

Jim, I like this image a lot. The rays of sun and the mist come together very well.

Love the repost Jim, great rays spotlighting the subject, and the surrounding lupine is a bonus.

Loved the original, but like the repost even more. The light is amazing, there's simply no substitute for being at the right place at the right time! Composition and color/contrast look perfect to me, print it large and proud.

Jim, Sometimes it takes an EP to see some of the images I miss during the week. Congrats! This is great and well deserving. The lighting, mood, and flowers all combine for a wonderful shot.
