Baboon in the grass

by James Campbell

This Chacma baboon portrait was taken in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It was just sitting in the long grass enjoying the early morning  A very peaceful moment indeed.

Thanks for looking...

Beautiful shot. The details, such as his fur, are so much more appreciable on the larger version. Love the expression in his eyes. Congrats!

Hi James,

I like this shot a LOT. In particular, I really like how the tones and textures of the grass work so well with the fur colour and texture of the baboon. And the eye is excellent! And then there's the light...just great! There's ONE piece of grass only that I wish wasn't there - the long one that is just to the right of the nose and runs parallel to the snout. But it's not a huge problem at all. Overall - very nicely done...

Thanks for sharing this very unique and appealing shot...

Brad

I Love the partial show of the baboon in the grasses. Also like the kind expression you caught

This is very nice James. The focus is spot-on on that beautiful lit eye. The color scheme and the play of light and dark really make this a very artistic looking image that will look great in large print! :toast:

BTW I have realised that I do not have many baboon images in my files. Somehow I always tend to forget/ignore them, maybe because they are so common and a nuisance (they even raid the garbage bins on the outskirts of the city here). But this wonderful shot inspires me to spend some time with them.

Very nice! This would work equally well as a vertical portrait.

Love the almost monochrome effect you have brought out in this lovely image of a common animal in Africa! :toast:

Beautiful shot James. Again, it's the light and the mood of the image that appeals to me and I do like it a lot.

James, stunning shot. It looks more threatening than serene, but I suppose thats because I'm not a good read of baboon facial expressions... I love the softness that shooting through the grass provided and the light is great... congrats on the EP, well deserved!

Really like the dramatic lighting and the eye contact. Like the surrounding grasses as well. Congratulations on the pick!

Appreciating this image in words would only lead to making under statements :). I still need to see this is one of the best images I have seen in my life. It takes so much of maturity and understanding to view nature like this. :toast: :toast: :toast:
