Break in the Clouds
by Kurt Budliger
Although the color around my neck of the woods is totally peaking and absolutely gorgeous I've been struggling to come up with any good compositions of late. To say I've been frustrated this Autumn would be a major understatement. I've had some hilarious conversations with some photog buddies who have all been feeling quite challengd lately.
It seems like it happens every year. In anticipation of the prettiest time of the year to photograph in the northeast I put a huge amount of pressure on myself to produce amazing work. The season is so fleeting, the constraints on my time so great and of course the weather/light so finicky that I always seem to be let down, either by my own doing or the foliage gods.
However, I did manage to catch a break on Friday morning. I almost didn't leave the house in the pre-dawn since it was pouring rain, but certainly glad I made the journey. I arrived at this, one of my favorite ponds with not much hope for any light and low and behold after waiting an hour for some clouds to break I got a brief window when some light graced this scene.
Thanks for looking and I want to give a shout out to all the moderators and of course Jim for choosing my image as this months cover. I'm certainly honored and humbled as the work shown here on a daily basis is truly inspiring.

10 commentsGlad you braved the elements with the help of your "rock star." But those elements that want to make us stay home sometimes often end up making the trips special, don't they?
This is a dramatic composition, and I appreciate the fact that the clouds, hills and trees are not lost behind those prominent FG rocks. The submerged grasses are a nice sublte touch, too.

I'm a little late, but wanted to let you know that I think this is a fantastic autumn image. The depth and clarity are amazing, not to mention the mood brought on by the low clouds. I haven't even checked yet to see if you've posted that horizontal version yet - I'll look forward to that.
