EPA 2009 - First Honorable Mention - Earth, Sea & Sky Gallery
Photo of the Month 11/09
Some days you capture a bit of nature, some days nature captures a bit of you...
Despite several attempts, Mount Adams has been shrouded in clouds when I’ve tried to take this view in the past. (Compare
this photo from last year.) Sunday morning though, nature gave the gift.
Nikon D80
Nikon 50 mm f/1.8
Hand Blend of three photos, two at 2.0 sec at f/16, and one at 1/8 sec at f/13 (for dynamic range and depth of field) and ISO 100

How did you blend this for DOF and DR? Which blend did you do first? I assume you'd do the DOF blend first, then complete the DR blend but I've never done one of these. More info. on your technique would be greatly appreciated.
The bottom quarter is much what Im faced with here. Ahhh that mountain and sky really put it all together. I must say everyone is posting some great fall shots this year. Ok enough ramblings, wonderful image and great job
Been wanting to get down towards Adams for fall. Maybe next year!
Marc, I don't know how you guys can do the Editor's Picks. On any given week there is no way to choose one without snubbing several other (and some weeks way more than several) very deserving photos.
Reed, I actually like those grasses, but have a pano that I have yet to stitch that concentrates on the sky and trees just as you suggest. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.
Jay, I didn't notice noise, but maybe it showed up in sharpening? There is a dust bunny (or two?) up there that I missed, so thanks for getting me to look closer!
Joe, it was amazing to watch. (I'm guilty of chortling to my dog a time or two as I snapped these.)

Outstanding!!! The foreground grasses, color and layers really shine through in the larger version and only add to the glorious scene before you. Congrats on such a magnificent capture. Wow!
Lon
Absolutely stunning.
Just amazing. You could not ask for anything more in such a scene. Truly very fortunate to have witnessed this. Now tell me, were any other humans around or was this a gift for just you?

(Can't add anything, but wow, I am just awestruck by this image, and I am not a person who uses that word or "awesome" more than once or twice a year.) I am E-mailing this link to my friends with the message "You gotta see this!"
In seriousness: It's AMAZING!
If Marc has trouble making a pick this week, id be happy to make it for him
This is the kind of shot that makes you wonder if you really want to post anything alongside it. It looks like everything came perfectly together for you and you pulled it off with great mastery. Superb shot through and through!
What more can I say that hasn't been said.

I don't really know what to say about this. "Speechless" is probably as good a choice as any.
Congratulations on this image.
