Boulder Beach Blues

I couldn't resist throwing out a little more alliteration for Sir Ian

The title also helps illustrate my mood during much of my recent trip to Acadia, not only was there no foliage to shoot but the light was mostly gloomy except for one brief show on Friday night. This was well before dawn on Boulder Beach wondering if the light would materialize. Alas it never did so I'm glad I shot several frames at 1+ mins. each in near darkness. I like the resulting mood here as it typifies the way I felt, cold and mysterious.

Thanks for all the great comments on my previous post, much appreciated :jump:

Lovely image, Kurt! The blues are sweeeeeeet and I really like the foreground. The different hues in the smaller rocks are very pleasing and complimentary to the overall blueness.

Love those rocks in the FG and the blue tone throughout. Superb composition Kurt. Maybe not what you had hoped for but a fantastic image just the same. Excellent work.

I love those boulders and the blue mood here Kurt. Reminds me of one of the beaches I visited on my recent trip to Cape Breton. Being a part time midcoast Mainer, I have to get myself a little further north of Boothbay a little more often. This is some fantastic light.

Love the mood here, Kurt. It does typify the weather that week very well. I knew you had the perfect spot with that FG granite to contrast with the smaller cobble stones.

Kurt, I've seen about a million shots of Cobble Beach. Some with glorious clouds. Others with golden light illuminating Otter Cliffs and all the boulders. This tops them all in my opinion and is the best shot I've ever seen of this iconic spot. Would you mind sharing what white balance you used? :toast: :toast:

I'm reminded of the quote by Dale Carnegie " When life gives you lemons...", Well this is certainly one sweet batch!

Love the cool hues. The only thing I can think of that would be an improvement was if the fg was mirrored around a vertical line in the center, putting the larger boulder on the left. Something you couldn't have helped.

A unique, wonderfully composed seascape. Quite a joy to view. And the mood, as you say, really comes through.

Great beach, love the rocks. The blue is nice. I usually like to see a little more wave action, but it's a nice effect here.

Beautiful blue tones and a lovely composition. The horizon seems slightly tilted CW.

Congratulations, Kurt! You definitely made the most of bad a situation for fall
color. In a near monochromatic sort of way, this is beautiful. Good lines,
colors, and shapes. Well done, Kurt.

I've only been to Acadia once, but loved it. I was just getting into landscape photography, and really need to return now with a couple of years experience on my side.

I love what you did with the conditions; it conveys exactly the mood you were after.

I think I prefer this to the cliché dawn light anyway, Kurt, or even cliché fall foliage. This has a lot of originality to it, not to mention some very good light. I'm glad you didn't give up and let the light find you for this one.

Excellent comp, and I really like the moody blues. The long exposure did something pretty special with the shoreline as well.

Ian, your high school English teachers must have loved you!

Mike, white balance was 5864 with 0 tint, just a hair warmer than good old Velvia.

Wonderfully moody Kurt, and I really like to comp too. My only nit is that the horizon seems a tad bit tilted.

More and more I am getting a little bit bored of the "golden" moments, and more attracted to the magic of those pre-dawn moments when magic is cold and misterious. Gorgeous image.
