Black bellied Plover
by Bill Leggett
It was a bit cool this morning, and the early morning sky was cloudless, but I went out anyway. No long legged waders, but a few of the shore birds were active. Shot at the beach in Ocean Springs. I saw this small partially submerged sand bar and liked the combination of warm and cool tones, so was hoping to get a chance with this bird in that environment. The bird was actively feeding in the wet sand in the cool morning air, and I watched it carefully as it approached the area, but it didn't stay in these surroundings more than a few moments. I would have liked a bit lower angle. It might have been better at a slightly higher tide. Cropped to 6x4 from 4/3rds aspect, I have a little more room at bottom, but felt that it would emphasize the already too high camera position.
Olympus E-3, ZD 300 F2.8 +EC20, Wimberley I, ISO 200, 1/1250 F6.3, a little shadow/highlight in CS4, and I backed off on the saturation a bit.

10 commentsI think this angle works very well, it shows the great patterns of the water & the sand, I also think you made the right choice in not leaving more room on the bottom.
Love the light, the plover's pose, the sharpness, details and the comp.
A beautiful & appealing image as presented.
