Light on Water
by Larry Fischer
A colorful leaf caught in a shallow stream and held in place by moss is the setting. Loaction: Flint Hills region, NE Kansas, USA.
The lack of a polarizing filter allowed the light to play on the ripples.
D700, 30-105 zoom manual Nikkor, f/5.6, 1/125 sec., ISO 200. Capture NX2 adjustments were saturation and increase of gren tone in moss; 20% crop.

4 commentsThe highlights of the ripples really make the image for me - in addition to the great color combination. Great job deciding not to use the polarizer. I think this is great! The only suggestion I have would be a crop from the bottom as an alternative composition. I say that because I go back and forth between the orange leave and the clump of moss at the bottom. The leaf trumps so that's why I'm suggesting a crop from the bottom. But that's just a suggestion.

Lon, I left the moss in the photo to spread the play of light.
I see what you mean by the leaf's color "trumping" the moss. Are you saying to basically feature the leaf with just a small portion of moss on the bottom with a vertical crop??
Thanks for all the C and C.
