White-Necked Jacobin

One of the hummers from Costa Rica. This is the male White-Necked Jacobin. From this angle, clear to see why. From the front, you'd never know why.

The heads on these guys are pretty dark. I liked this exposure as it showed off the beautiful back and the iridescence of the head.

Canon 50D
500mm f/4 with 1/4x TC
ISO 500
1/200 @ f/5.6
580EX flash @ -1 2/3

Noise Reduction applied to the background

wow--great detail in the larger version. nice work with the flash. I really like the purple flight feathers. I think I'd like just a tiny bit more room on the top. :toast:

What amazing colours Keith, captured beautifully. Is that a slight movement along the right hand wing?

cheers

A great looking hummer Keith, great detail and colours captured here in a nice clean pose. Like how the wing feathers sweep round and cover the tail on this species.

That is a gorgeous hummingbird Keith and I think the pose worked very well to show off the white neck and beautiful colors on the back of the bird.

Very well done.

This is awesome Keith. What a beautiful bird and you have captured it superbly. Those colors just seem to glow as if I was seeing it in real life.

Very nice Keith. I live all the color in this image including the bird, the BG, and the perch. I like the pose and the perspective.

That's some detail and color Keith! Very neat to look at in the larger version. Love it.

I too wondered about the right wing - probably motion blur at that SS?
