Eastern Pale Chanting Go

This Eastern Pale Chanting Goshawk in Amboseli National Park, Kenya was intent on keeping, whatever he had, a secret. I was hoping for a change of position from behind the branch, but, for over 30 minutes he stayed in the same spot, never so much as looking down, only side to side. I like the closer version, but the second post may be the better composition. What do you think?

Canon D30 conon 400 2.8 w/2x iso 200 1000th @ F6.7

Smaller version w/1.4 x

Tanks for any comments
Neil

Nice shot Neil - I prefer the second - more room for the virtual tail and feet. I suspect it's a male Montague's Harrier (or Pallid)

cheers

Agreed with Rob on both the shot preference and the id. The second shot is very nice. :toast:

Wonderful shot, what a beautiful looking bird. I also like the second post better due to seeing where the claws are located, gives me a better sense of what the bird has landed in. Excellent detail.

Another vote for the second composition. Beautiful blue/brown colors on this species.

Love that eye. Nice capture for what you could get since he wouldn't move and maybe even pose for you. I also like the environment

Excellent head turn Neil and I like the BIH aspects of the image. I too prefer the repost as your first version was too confining for the bird IMO.

Thanks Everyone!
Nice ID Rob.
I checked with my Kenyan contact and thought you would be interested.

Jambo Neil,

Pardon my mistake, this is a Montagus Harrier, I probably saw another picture of an Eastern Chanting Goshawk. I can see its feet as well which would be brighter yellow in a chanting goshawk and the beak as well.

My education continues.

Ron, is BIH "bird in hand" ?
