That Place

We all have "That Place" in our hearts that we know we can escape to to bring everything back into perspective. The Smokies have served that purpose for me for the past 12 years since I moved back to Ohio from Washington state. To me there is nothing better than fall in GSMNP. When you combine that with the opportunity to throw on some waders and photograph a mountain stream surrounded by fall foliage I get pumped up. I spent an afternoon in late October on the Greenbrier River doing just that. I was about a week early for peak color but there was a little to help spruce up this image. All C&C welcome.

I hear ya Kirk. I was there as well last week of oct. I miss the streams and forests. Wonderful portrait of soothing place. I can just hear the water cascading all around. Lovely

Beautiful sweep of water, well composed. (from someone who grew up in Dayton and now enjoys the Pacific NW)

Very nicely done Kirk. The composition is excellent with the spacing of the rocks. You handled the highlights in the deep forest well and the woods are appropriately dark on the sides. I wish I would have taken this one myself. Wonderful shot.

Can't believe this only has 3 comments so far. I think the comp is very solid and quite effective. I love the water treatment and cool tones within. The light looks really heavy and somewhat dark. If it were mine I'd consider brightening it up, particularly the mid-tones and trying to add some luminosity to the foliage.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with Kurt that the original processing left the image too dark in the mid-tones. Here is a re-post with a curves adjustment and a little bit of additional dodging. Better?

Beautiful shot the repost is really nice. I know what you mean about the Smokies.
I'm thinking we must have been there the same week but I did not make it to Greenbrier even though I had planed to.
