Fallen Oaks

It's been several weeks since I've posted as life has been hectic. Finally my priorities are straight and I'm back!!! So, we didn't have quite the beautiful fall that we've had in past uyears but I was still able to get out at times. I shot these in my yard one morning. Oaks abound everywhere in my yard and they didn't quite have their wonderful orange rust colors this year. I went ahead and desaturated this image ever so slightly as I wanted to create the mood that I felt this fall...bummed about our non stop rain and lack of the usual autumn.

Critiques and suggestions are rgeatly appreciated and welcomed.

D80, iso 100, f9, a bit of orton and desaturation for mood

I like your diagonal comp here and the muted color palette works very well.

It certainly does have a "dull" feeling theme - well done on your objective! I'd maybe give it some extra saturation in the dark blues and darker sea greens to give it an even more "bruised" kind of dark feeling, if you'd like.

Hi Beth,

When I saw this image, my first thought was that I would like to see more color. I now understand your reasons for desaturating the image and appreciate your intentions. Colorado's fall fizzled out for the most part, so I can identify!

I like the very subdued tones in this image, Beth. Beautifully composed and executed all round.

Beth,

Given your intent, I this is superbly executed. The desaturation is very effective.

Our Fall lasted for about three days and then we had two days of snow and after that the leaves that were starting to turn had just withered. This image describes the way I felt perfectly.

The light and your comp really make this understated color of autumn shot sing! Very well done!

"bummed about our non stop rain and lack of the usual autumn." - You and me both!

Great leaf image. I love the desaturated look and the diagonal composition. Hope things get a little less hectic. :toast:

Hi Beth :wavey: `This image does portray a melancholy mood..... the composition is nice, and the effect of the colors are somber as you intended . Well done :frown:

I can appreciate this too Beth. Although we did have a very pretty fall and with a fair amount of color it was different than most and not nearly as dramatic as some. This is well done :toast: :toast:

So real to life Beth, looks just about the same here in northeast N.Y. Definitely like the mood it portrays, telling a story about whats right around the corner. Beautiful work, and excellent eye foe realism.

Yes, I like it Beth. Understated beauty is welcome and this in its own way tells the story of this Fall. Same here in the Great PNW, but we did get a brief flash of color. The oaks in my area of town came down all in browns, got rained on and turned brittle. So your shot reminds me of mine but in a much prettier result.
