Caterpillar sandwich

I usually find it difficult to spot caterpillars in the bush because they are usually well hidden. But this bunch was easy to spot. It is interesting to watch them chew on the very leaf they reside and I saw a few of them drop off on to the ground via a silky thread when they chew the last connection to the leaf. I couldn't ID and would be grateful if someone know what species this is.

Hi Gary. I couldn't find these in my field guide, but it pretty much just covers insects in North America. However, I have an abundance of similiar looking caterpillars here in the woods around my home that we call tent caterpillars which are part of the Malacosoma species. Maybe these are partof the same family (Lasiocampidae). They have the same hairy body but the color is a little different.
I like the photo and the DOF of the group in the BG but it seems it's a little shallow for F11. The first caterpillar in the FG seems to be just a bit out of focus or a little soft. Maybe sharpening could fix the softness?? Just a guess, I'm just learning myself. All & all though I really like the photo, good job. :toast:

These caterpillars are so cute with that white, soft-looking fur! Fantastic comp too; the critters are nicely placed in the frame so that both sandwiches are well in focus, and there's nothing extra in view. Simply excellent!
