Foggy Morning

This past weekend I woke to find everything covered in thick fog so I grabbed my gear and walked off into the woods behind my house. I have very little experience photographing in fog and any pointers anyone may have will be helpful.
This photo was taken with the camera on a tripod while standing in the middle of the trail. As the sun began to show itself over the distant trees the fog seemed to absorb the light and cast a orange glow throughout the woods.
Once viewing the photo's later the color seemed to be very flat so I changed the white blance from auto to shade when I converted from RAW to JPEG to make the photo more like I remembered. Other camera info is 1/13sec, F16, ISO 400,18-55mm @40mm. Also I adjusted the saturation up just a bit.
Thanks for looking and any C&C welcomed.

John, fog creates mood, promotes a sense of mystery and enhances the light in the scene, all of which I see here. Personally I prefer fog to be a background or middle ground element, and looking through many of the weekly picks which contain fog, that seems to be the case. I believe there should be some elements of interest in the photo that are in the clear. That gives emphasis to the fog and also gives depth. Anyway, those are my thoughts on photographing fog. Look through the weekly picks for yourself and see what you conclude regarding fog in photographs.

Thanks for the advice Will. I will keep them in mind on my next foggy outing and use them to help improve. :toast:
