Water Painting
by Elliot Johnston
Keeping the wide-angle in the bag, I spent much of the summer looking for intimate landscape photographs. This shot was taken in the same park as my last post. The surface of Hoyt Lake was full of interesting patterns as the wind and late-evening light combined to make lovely colors and ripples. Here the shadow of a tree mingles with the blue and gold of the lake created by the soft evening light. This shot was all about finding the right shutter speed and 1/8 seemed capture what I was after. I wanted the surface of the water to almost mimic the brushstrokes of a painter.

10 commentsI've recently been using longer glass, too, recently, and find the change of focus (arr, arr) very stimulating.
Thanks for posting.
Wonderful abstract! Personally, I like the black area the most as it's the most abstract; whisphy and mysterious. the lighter areas are more straight forward and easier to understand. Congrats on working this little scene and recognizing the potential.
