Feather Fluffin

What we have is a Pied-billed Grebe, "Fluffin" his/her feathers as the camera is doing it's thing.
This was taken this morning at the refuge, under very poor lighting conditions of dark overcast clouds. I was actually surprised that any photo's came out and surprised again at this shot of moving wings while the head and neck remained in focus.

Very nice work here Craig. I love the motion blur of the wings with the very sharp head, neck and breast. The light water really makes the bird pop and the reflections tops it off. Well done.

I like the motion blur with the feathers a lot and it's a really good look at this bird which is always hard to photograph - it does need to be straightened out though.

Neat image. Nice that the had is sharp and the "fluffing" feathers show the motion blur.
Well done.

Excellent, Craig. A very cool image, and amazingly sharp. Great results for that high an iso. :toast:

Very cool capture Craig! (I agree on the straightening. If I have my physics correct, reflections should line up vertically.)

The excellent sharpness on the face and breast is complemented by the blur of the wings. I like the rich brown colors. Ideally the reflection wouldn't touch the bottom of the frame, small detail though.

very nice, Craig! I like contrast between the blurred wings and how sharp the head and breast are. The eye looks really good in the larger version. I do agree that it could use a little CCW rotation. :toast:

It's great for the conditions and the crisp eye and face are a bonus

Craig,

I like the motion blur, the crisp hard & face and the subdued colors in the image.

Agree on the need for rotation, but that is easy to do.

An interesting & appealing image.
