Below the Falls

I went to Loon Brook, in the Adirondacks, to photograph the waterfall, but after just two photos of the falls (which didn't come out too well!), I noticed the leaves floating below the falls. The white foam spread out in lines, and I really liked the patterns, as the leaves floated downstream. I ended up spending almost all of my time photographing these leaves, of which this is my favorite. The top 10% and bottom 5% were cropped out because they were really out of focus. I'd love comments and critiques! Thanks!

Another cool shot Cam, I like your creativity in looking for the small detail when there's a popular subject to shot(the falls). I personally like your choice of useing a large aperture (F2.8) to capture this image, creating the photo to be OOF at the top and bottom with the leaf in sharp detail. Great job.

Very creative, at first I thought the leaf was frozen in ice.

The use of shallow focus is clever and creative. I love the overall effect added by the darkness too. Very nice, Cam.

My first thought was that more depth of field would have nailed this. But I understand what you were going for, and appreciate that approach. Thanks for spending the time in the field and sharing here.

Cam,

I can certainly see why you were fascinated by the floating leaves. No doubt we've all watched floating leaves, but I haven't seen very many floating leaves captured like this. Excellent capture!

My only nitpick would be to clone out the yellow/green "thing" just below and to the right of the leaf. Of course you can't always avoid this kind of stuff, but in this case it's slightly distracting.

Nice job though.

Interesting interpretation with the OOF fore and background. I like the lines and the strong contrasts.

This is really neat. I agree with Kurt, it looks like the leaf is frozen in some really clear ice.
