Panamanian Golden Frog

This neotropical frog is nearly extinct in it's native habitat due to a fungus infection. Captive breeding programs both in Panama and US zoos have established a population free of the fungus and may be re-introduced when fungus free habitats are located.

Canon Rebel XTi, Tamron 18-200mm lens at 150mm, #1 close-up lens, 25 extension tube. 1/200, F 6.3, ISO 100. Natural light plus fill.

Hmmm, this is one of these cases where I am glad the species is nearly extinct. I thought it was completely extinct :frown:

The colors of the frog and the leaf work well together. It also has a very intense look on its face. I think I'd like just a bit more DOF in this to get the nose a bit more sharp.

Thanks for posting.

The eyes are sharp nicely captured. A bit more DOF would be nice but may be difficult with an extension tube and close up filter.

John...its great to capture such great images of species that are disappearing. Crisp focus on the eye...what a wonderful frog... lets hope they make it... I wonder if the fungus is related to climate change?

Thanks for the BG info, John. As others have pointed out, the focus is good on the eyes (most important) but a bit more DOF would have been nice. It looks like the yellows are a little overblown on some spots on the frog. You may want to try to tone those down just a tad.
