New Life

Camera: Nikon F100
Lens: Tokina 400 F5.6
Aperture: F8

The shot of this little beauty was taken from about 7-8 feet away while on the boardwalk at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. I really like Tokina lenses and still use the 400 F5.6 today on my digital.

An intimate look at the family life of these birds Steve. The image seems a little dark to me.

Your focus is perfect on the chicks eye. Does mom have food in her mouth? I think the details are quite good. I get the comment that I need to brighten my images a lot too. To my dark loving eyes this does look just a smidge dark but not much. Actually the chicks face looks perfect to me but the darker surrounds are giving the image an overall slightly too dark appearance.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Actually Sally, mom has a pom fron [did I spell that right?] in her mouth. There are quite a number of these opportunities at the gator farm during this time of year [when photo was taken].

Great shot, but a bit too dark. What a great moment captured.

Jeff,

I like the intimacy of your image, the nice look at the chick and the palm frond in the adult bird's bill.

Over all the image does appear a smidge dark to my eye and the chick slightly oversharpened, with a little work this could be a stronger image.
