Lovely portrait. I love the way the tongue is showing up underneath the beaks.

Very nice portrait. Never having seen one of these chicks are their faces really that blue?

Thanks, Murali~

Sally, this shot was taken during an opportunity to get up close and personal with the falcon babies when they were being banded. I just checked a lot more pix of them and zooming in shows the blueness and pattern around the eyes. Except for this opportunity, my shots are at more of a distance! http://pefas.blogspot.com/

Stunning shot, he looks kind of sad to me. The focus seems slightly off on the beak, but its pretty minor. Very nicely presented!

Thank you for the comment, Stan.

I always try to focus on the eyes, which in this case did pay off and I saw features in the photo which weren't so obvious onsite or from the more usual distant shots. Unfortunately the beak wasn't as sharp.

The conditions of many people from NYSDEC, SPCA, Ornithologists and Audubon near the baby Peregrines which were brought in from an 18th floor nestbox, to a hallway of a virtually abandoned building, was a challenge! And that poor baby! He was removed from his nest, taken inside the building, was being closely looked at and examined by these unknown big creatures called people, then being banded, all the while the parents were screaming outside. Three were banded that day; all were upset and this one kept screaming.

All three safely fledged and I feel privileged to have participated in this venture!
