One from last night's visit to Pacific City. I usually have terrible luck with coastal sunsets, but this evening turned out very nice.

Canon 1D Mark II
Canon EF 24-70L at 70mm
2.5 Seconds at f/22
ISO-50
Polarizer
5 stops of hand-held NG filter

The soft color is nice, it adds to the dreamy quality of the background. I also like the sun composed off-center of the stack.

Beautiful scene and soft colors. The relatively long exposure certainly adds to the gentleness of the mood.

I must have just missed you. I was there over the thanksgiving holiday, and left sun. Nice image. I think your choice of shutter speed was perfect, and the light on the calm water in the foreground is subtle and beautiful.

Like I said elsewhere - nice & serene.

I'm ready for some more of that!

Really like the simple composition and the silky surf. Nicely done.

Ned,

Yeah, I have the same problem with coastal sunsets which is probably why I don't pursue them.. But this one here is quite nice; simple yet almost powerful with the looming presence of the huge sea rock. I think the scene could well have stood on it's own without the bottom half, but at the same time it doesn't hurt the composition and I like the overall composition with it.

Must be nice to see the sun hit the horizon in Oregon...
