Fox in Trees

I have been trying to photograph this fox for quite a while. I was able to make this shot this morning. I am not sure about the composition and the branches.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Personally, I would consider this a keeper! While the branches and out-of-focus foliage could be thought of as a distraction (if one is looking for a "clean" shot of a fox), they do add to the idea/thought of the fox as being secretive or elusive. I don't know if you do any teaching of photography - but this one would be a great teaching shot to bring up alternate interpretations of distractions vs. portraying the subject in its habitat. I do wish the entire fox was in the frame (and that it was perhaps a little sharper), but it's still an interesting image as presented.

Cheers...

Brad

I agree it could use just a little more room around the fox. By backing up, you would include even more of the environment. I do like how you kept a clear view of the eye.

Mike, you managed to get the eye unobstructed here, which is key in an image like this. IMO animals obscured by bushes or other natural habitat elements can be very attractive and be way more interesting than clear view shots. however, in this particular case it would have been better to have the paws and tail included (even though they maybe 'virtual')

I don't mind the greenery hiding much of the fox but wish the one stick right below the eye wasn't there. That bothers me more than the missing feet and end of the tail. Love the soft looking coat and the look of curiosity in the fox's eye.
