Living in the Northwest Territories gives me a great range of things to photograph. Here is one taken one the side of the road just 1.5 hours from my home.

Sony a700
Minolta 70 - 210 mm f4 (Beercan)

Handheld
f4
210 mm (315 mm on full frame)
shutter speed 1/320

Nice photo Lee! I like the color and composition though it would be nice if he had a little more room at the bottom.

I like the contrast between the very solid bison and the ghostly surroundings. I could wish for a brighter eye and more room at the bottom for the feet.

The only thing that can be asked for here is a little more room at the bottom. Awesome shot, thanks for sharing

I like the details in the bison and the monochromatic trees in the background. Could use a little more room on the bottom.

A good image Lee, great pose and enviroment here! Like the others I do wish for a little more room on the bottom of the frame.

Hi Lee,

Add me to the list of folks who like what you've done here but would like to full see those hooves (and a little more!). I'll bite - what do you mean by the "Beercan" term with the lens? Aren't beer cans made of aluminum (and pretty impervious to light? ).

Cheers...

Brad

I like this Lee. The backdrop of those straight trees, your chosen DOF and the contrast between the animal and the white environment really are strong ingredients for a great image. But what a pity you cut of his hooves!

Brad,

Beercan is what Minolta users termed the lens due to it size and shape being similar to a beer can. There are actually a group of lens now referred to with beercan (75 - 300 is the Big Beercan and the 35 - 70 is the mini beercan). I have yet it find any beer in either lens, lol. :toast:

I would loosen up with the crop, give him a bit more space. It appears that the scene could have helped the image out considerably.

Best afield,
