I'm always trying to get something different at White Sands, and I ALWAYS get something different than what I thought I would.

Tachihara 8x10, Velvia 50, Schneider 210mm, Polarizer, 2-stop grad, 30 sec at f-45.

A great image, but the exposure difference between the fg and bg is glaring and needs to be fixed.

Whoa, if you crop this image in half and just look at the ripples, I would swear that I was looking at sand underwater along some tropical beach. The disjunction in color between the top and bottom is interesting, albeit very confusing. I like your composition nonetheless.

Thanks, Kartik. Not 'fixing' anything, but thanks.

Awesome take from there Michael, love the curves, the ripples, the light, and everything! The cyan in the foreground is throwing me off a little, and the sky does seem a bit dark, but all in all this is really killer!

Beautiful image. I like the repeating hills in the distance and the foreground as well. One of the color channels looks a bit overexposed, causing kind of a cyan cast. I wonder if this is possible to fix..
The sky and the light it's casting is fantastic.

Very cool, the glowing light is amazing - it looks like it's glowing from within! As others have said, the blue cast on the sand is my only nit.

Wild colors, and glowing light. I think this is pretty impressive. I agree that this looks like the sandy bottom of a tropical sea.

This is one of the most beautiful renditions that I've ever seen of White Sands.
The varying shades of bluish white sand contrasts so wonderfully with the reddish
horizon. You also have good layers and did well to set this up diagonally.

I like the mood and the other-worldlyness that the cool colors create. I would love to shoot there myself.

Awesome comp Michael. I also agree with Floris's comments about the sky and sand color - especially the upper left hand side of the sky. Wonderful patterns and textures...Thanks for sharing. Michael

lovely comp and interesting colours. while i appreciate you're not 'fixing' anything, i hope that your next exposure was just of the dunes just below the horizon ... (cheeky, i know, as this implies 'how about a crop from the top ...!)!!

I really like the rendition and the image. It has a totally surreal look to it. As others have said, it looks like a tropical underwater sand foreground, a real disconnect for a Colorado scene. .

Michael,

I love this dune scene; great depth, great sky and the dunes have a purity to them like they've never walked upon.

I also like the light and especially the illumination of the bottom portion of the image. IMHO though, the blue/green/cyan hue just doesn't seem right to my eye. I can understand the more magenta/lavendar color of the upper part of the dunes, not only because of the inherent properties of Velvia, but also more believable as those colors match what's happening in the sky.

Even so, this is still a beautiful capture from White Sands.

Nothing can beat colors rendered by Velvia. Just love the details and colors on the mounds at the top of the frame. Excellent image Michael! :wavey:

This has come out really well, Michael. The shimmering nature of light on the dunes is amazing. I also love the gentle curves receeding into the distance.
