Sunrise, Franklin Falls

Mist rising as the sun comes up over Franklin Falls Pond in the Adirondacks. I wanted both the rising sun (and its reflection and the island which is rather far right but I think it works anyway. The band of mist ties the image together. The mist was changing rapidly and I shot several others both with and without the island. I think this one works best.

Jim:
This one works for me. I especially like the gradation in mist density and the associated variations in clarity of the shoreline and the reflections.

Works great for me, love the gradations in the mist with the slight hint of colour!

This definitely sets the mood of a calm, still morning. Almost appears to be a B&W & would probably work very well if converted.

I tried a B&W Kirk but I really like the subtle color better.

All fog photos have a sense of foreboding. I wonder what is coming out of the fog on the distant shoreline??
I agree; the shadows of the trees add greatly to the ambiance.
Bland and white attempt???
Kudos, the fisch

I agree Larry. That's why I stuck with the color version after trying B&W. The trees on the right go black but to get any real 'snap' out of the rest of the image I would have to totally change the sunrise mist mood into something I didn't intend. As much as anything else, the contrast between the warm sunrise and the cool mist makes it work. Take that away and it just goes 'blah'. Mist is subtle by nature. OTOH here's another I shot that morning when the sun was higher and brighter and it does work as a B&W.

Cool shot, Jim! The sun makes it for sure. I hear what you are saying about the distance between the sun and trees, but this is such a cool atmosphere that really doesnt matter here. Great entry!

Fog always creates such a great mood and this is no exception. Nice stuff.
