Spring Time

It's not too early for spring is it? This shot was taken last May in the Canadian Rockies and it's kind of unusual for me. Most of my photos are shot with infinite DOF and here I tried to shoot with a fairly shallow DOF.

Thanks for looking!

Tech:
Canon 5D2
Canon 24-105mm @ 47mm
1/160 sec at f/11
Handheld while laying on my stomach.

Hey Tom, it is never to early for spring. I should see spring by May month, lol. Great photo. Unfortunately if I shot it while on my stomach I might have missed the flower as I be a foot or so off the ground, lol.

Hey, don't get us fired up for flowers just yet... there's months of snow and frost ahead! I like the shallow DoF, and that is a lovely statement with the lone flowers.

Hi Tom,

Beautiful capture and find. For my tastes, I personally don't care for the shallow depth of field. Just my opinion though...Thanks for sharing. Michael

I don't mind the dof, but there's too much middle ground for me. I realize you couldn't get any lower to minimize it though.

I like the shallow focus. It works, and is a good break from the norm. I agree with Paul though, that there is too much bland mid-ground that is just kind of sitting there without adding much to the scene. It makes the connection from flower to mountain a little too distant. Not a deal breaker by any means though.

Nice result with the different layers and colours that drive the eye to the far mountain.

I totally don't mind the shallow dof, its great here and I think it works well. What does distract me is the extreme fg grasses blocking the bloom. A more isolated bloom and it makes this even stronger.
Very creative and thanks for sharing Tom

Very enjoyable, Tom. The blur is very effective here.
