Reflected Foggy Sunrise

Gallery: Photo ArtPosted December 9, 2009805 views10 comments
My wife pointed out this evening that this image has been doing well at our gallery... so I thought I'd share it with ya'll and hear how it could be improved. I was out for a walk before sunrise and came upon a great scene with fabulous sunrise colors. Headed home, took a shower, jumped into my truck and headed back. PEA SOUP! I left a crystal clear scene and returned to thick fog. Maybe because of that, I haven't giving a lot of attention to this puppy. This image is another in my "Reflection" series and it's why its in Photo Art section. The water and reflections in the foreground were created in Photoshop and added. With images like this, I put a sticker on it that say's "Creatively Enhanced Digital Image" and then explain what I've done. I find the word "manipulated" to be a loaded word with lots of negative baggage.

Cool idea, Marc! I have a few suggestions, just my subjective opinion: 1) make some space up at top for the sun, just a strip will do (double the space to the edge) 2) I prefer cooler colors for fog, but if you want warm, id suggest less green so it doesnt look poisonous, maybe sepia would work. 3) The reflection screams "Photoshop!", which isnt good. The 'Flood' filter might work here (a plugin) but personally, my approach with reflections is to manually create them, i don't mess with filters. That means brutally tough work smudging or warping the reflected image so it matches the true water reflection, probably a couple hours work. But for a fine image like this, the results would be worth it!

Very well done, Marc. I really like this... :toast:
The subject is grand as are the colors. If I would to do anything with this, I might add a bit of height and crop ever so slightly from the right, and I like it as posted too.
Good job.

This is a terrific picture, Marc. Lots of visual impact. Upon close examination though, the reflection seems artificial, especially the reflection of tallest tree. Though I must say that I haven't a clue, technically speaking, how it could be improved.
