Winter Wonderland

Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-200 2.8 @70mm. F/8, 1/125sec, ISO 250.

I had to act quickly because the pond was freezing over. Now I had the ideal combination of layers of water, ice and snow for contrast and composition. The trees in the background also were coated with a layer of paint like snow, making the scene a winter wonderland. Comments appreciated.

I like this Albert. The reflection, gray sky, the bare trees, and ice are nice. Did you get any macro shots of the ice forms? Just as the water starts to freeze there are some amazing shapes.

Very nice. I especially like the reflections of the trees in the water and the layers of ice, snow and water. Like you said, a winter wonderland.

I like the line of the ice through the reflection. It is similar to the landscapes around my area and I have a hard time composing this type of scene. This is nicely done, thanks for the inspiring post.

The partially frozen surface add a very nice texture and shape to the image. The sky in ULC seems a little uninteresting relative to the rest of the scene. A scroll crop from the top still seems to work.

Albert,

An interesting shot. I'm going to jump on Tony Kuyer's bandwagon and say a more pan-like crop might be stronger here, and I speculate that a B&W conversion might be interesting.

I'll also get onboard Tony's bandwagon. The reflections of the trees and the form of the partially frozen surface of the pond are the primary and most interesting elements with this composition. I think it is only necessary to include just enough of the bottoms of the trees to give context. Additionally, it seems a little unexpected to me that the reflections of the trees are at a slight angle with respect to the trees themselves.

hi albert,
nice winter scene you got here. nice reflections and ice layers. I like that brighter snow coming from the left over the grey surface. I also find the ulc space a tad uninteresting but the comps still nicely for me. well done.

You captured the season very well Albert, exactly what I would expect to see if I were standing there. Very nice exposure, color and comp. Beautifully done.

Tough subject, but i think you did pretty well with it. The ice and reflection are great. Im in favor of cropping as much of the sky as possible.

Little late to the party Albert, I think you have some great features here and this is really cool.
I do agree on the upper lhc being bare but its insignificant. Great capture
