Awesome shot - I really like the little bit of lighting that reached the black center of this.

I love the colours and the "ball in hand" type of shape. Fantastic!

Very interesting capture John. Very nice critical focus and dof. Two small nits - the two bright blow-outs - remove or tone down. The oof stem? Complements the main subject, but might be better removed. That is a personal choice though and not as distracting as the two little blow-out areas to me. Given the time of day and lighting though, excellent.
Where in Mid Michigan are you?

Steven- In Mid Michigan just outside of the little town of Millington. It's falls east of but between Flint and Saginaw. Looks like were darn near neighbors.

Wonderful detail, John. The only nits (minor) are related to the comp: a bit more space on top and a bit too centered (i.e., more space on the right). I like the highlight on the darker center and the detail contained in that area.
