Merry Christmas, 2008

This was almost exactly a year ago today, when I drove into Deadhorse Point State Park before dawn, and ended up having the whole place to myself for a solid 2 hours, unbelievable when you consider how perfect it was for shooting and that it was a Saturday. It was one of my favorite mornings ever doing photography.

I shot all of my 8x10 film, and to make sure I had the shot, exposed about 30 4x5 slides as well.

Last year, I posted the horizontal version of this one.

Sounds like a great day. I like the detail in the stones in the foreground. Maybe a little too much cyan for my taste.

Gorgeous Michael. Incredible light. Love the color, especially the blue in the shadows. A print from the 8x10 transparency must be a real jaw dropper.

You've got to check the larger photo for a glimpse of the details. The colors...ummm...definitely intense.

I live for mornings like this. It almost doesn't matter where you are but when you find yourself in this zone, it makes you happy to be alive. I really like the combination of blues and reds here. One of the best images of DHP I've seen, and ironically (or maybe not) a composition that doesn't even rely on the famous bend in the river.
