Arctic conditions in Scotland this morning, but these squirrels seem to thrive on it!

I really like it: the action, the color of the squirrel and of the sky, the snowflakes on its face... pretty much everything!

Looks like he thinks if he keeps that one foot up it won't get wet. Love the colors and the falling snow. Once again great choice for selective DOF. Cute.

Love the pose and the foreground snow. His fur looks beautiful against the blue winter sky. My wife says, "It looks like he's playing, is that ever cute!"

Fantastic expression. Really makes it appear that this guy is trying to dig his buddy out after a ladnslide... perfect DOF choice, and the falling snow is wonderful. Snow is a little blue for my tastes though... I'd try to desaturate it.

Love the POV -- and with his paw in that position it looks like he has just hurled a snowball our way!

This is fantastic Ian, like if he is plowing through the snow. The low shooting angle is making this very powerful and those falling snow flakes and the ones on its head add a lot of context. Technically very well executed.

Hi Ian,
Nice and "wintery" - a very seasonally-approprate image! I like how you've split the frame (and the tilt to the slope), your thin DOF and selective focus, and those great snowflakes. I'd been lying if I said this was my favourite squirrel pose, but it does add an almost "comical" element to the image. Well seen and executed.
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Ian, this pose makes it look like he is throwing snow balls at you. Like the angle. We have black squrrels at Rocky Mountain National Park with exactly the same ears and build as this red squirrel. Maybe I will gat lucky enough to photograph one in the near furue and share it.

Theres squirrel images and then there's squirrel images, but this is about the best I've seen. Love the low angle, which accentuates its action.

Wow, you have some great images in your gallery, but the thumbnail of this one immediately drew my attention. What a great shot, it looks like he's snow digging - action perfectly sharp, BG and FG nice and simple, the falling snowflakes the finishing touch. Bravo!
