Stream Scallops (B&W post)

As I stumbled across a beautiful stream with 4 or 5 falls that seamed to be part of an old mill setting, this little patch of rock, snow, ice and water caught my eye. I liked the "scalloped" edges of the ice meeting the water, hence the name. H2 shot at ISO-100, 1/40th handheld (no tripod w/ me), and f-8.0. Any C&C welcomed and thanks for looking.

A tough subject, Bill, but worthwhile i think. A good reason to look at your histogram since the whites are probably off the scale here. My advice: crop the top 1/3, go B&W, and tone the highlites down as much as you can. An interesting shot, thanks for sharing!

Bill, the ice patterns match the rock, I like that. I agree with the highlight recovery, thanks for sharing.

Snow is /can be a tough subject to expose properly. I have just posted a winter scene with snow. I have a few hot spots in mine too. I think the snow here is also pretty bright. I really like your comp. Wouldn't mind seeing a B&W rendition as well.

Thanks folks, it wasn't even bright out to start the day. Overcast even. I cropped off some of the top that was really bright.

First thing I did was a B & W version, I'll post that too. Thanks for the looks and the advicec!

cropped and toned the contrast down a bit... I do like the rock patterns amidst the snow that were there, but..
