John,

I think I am seeing a rsuty colored reflection on the bird's belly from the material it is standing on or perhaps a stain from the water the bird has been in because I am used to seeing the belly of Black-necked Stilts as a lovely white so the color here confuses me some. The legs are usually pink to reddish as well. Perhaps some WB adjustment in RAW would resolve those issues?

I believe this is a reflection of the thatch the bird is standing on, and they had built a nest in this thatch which may have stained their feathers. The last time I saw them they were nice and white.

Very interesting perspective. I like it. This Miller Park Zoo sounds like a wonderful place to photograph.
