Taken at Kubota Gardens in Seattle.

Aiming for a contemplative feel that captures the dark essence of the spot.

Pentax K20D, DA 35mm Ltd. Macro, f5.6 @ 1/8, ISO 800, diffused flash, moderate post processing in Lightroom.

All feedback welcome.
Thanks,

The thumbnail looked so-so. But the bigger version isn't bad at all. I like the soft color shifts here. The only thing that bothers me a bit it that foreground tree on the right - throws the whole piece a little out of balance.

Micheal,

This is certainly a fascinating forest scene and I wouldn't have guessed "Gardens" had you not mentioned it. If it had a more cultivated look I would be tempted to move this to Man & Nature - but as it is, I'd be hard pressed to tell where this was taken. Anyway, I agree with Andreas about the trunk on the right - it just seems to throw the patterns and balance off just a little bit. But that's minor. I think you did capture a contemplative feel.

And I should also welcome you to NPN and the ES&S Gallery! This appears to be your first post, so welcome aboard! We look forward to your images and your participation in the forums.

Very interesting vegetation here. I like the unusual colours. I agree that the tree on the right is a bit heavy and doesn't seem to add to the composition.

I think you've captured the "dark essence of the spot" well. As mentioned, with a crop of the right side to eliminate that OOF trunk this shot would be even better.

Michael,

A lovely shot...those multitrunked trees with the bow-shaped base are fascinating. A very nice image of a woodland, one of my favorite themes.

I agree with the earlier crop suggestions.

I do find myself visually wandering among these trees and the soft light and muted colors is inviting.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice. This is a welcoming forum.
Here is a second version with the right side cropped. I have ambivalent feelings, but I tend not to like squarish crops in 2:3 formats. But that's just me.

Michael, I prefer the original - closer to your stated aim, and the foreground tree adds detail and depth I reckon.
